Bring Back Corporal Punishment In Schools ?
Should We Bring Back Corporal Punishment In Schools?
Currently Corporal Punishment Has Banned Almost Universally In all Schools. The Gen Zee Who Brought About Demand For Changes in Kenya , Bangladesh Were Brought Up Whithout Corporal Punishment And So Are The Generations Following Them. They are in fact brought up thinking they have the same rights as their adult teachers
People like myself born in the 1970`s and Early 80`s experienced some form or the other of corporal punishment. Those born in the the 50`s and 60`s experienced it even more.Corporal punishment instilled a sense of discipline , through fear which was good. The bolder ones of course just didn`t care and went ahead with their Huckleberry Finn activities knowing very well the odd 3 or 4 canings would not harm them at all.But the Huckleberry Finns were fewer and most children remained obedient.
Does this mean the teachers of the 50`s , 60`s 70`s up to 90`s were sadistic brutes who enjoyed inflicting pain in their students ?
Not at all.In fact the teachers of then were most caring and they wanted nothing but the best in their students. They were parental figures concerned that the students under their care develop into honest , diligent rightful members of society respectful of not only their parents but their elders too.And most of that generations turned out well and are still disciplined law abiding citizens.
So who brought about this theory that corporal punishment was harmful for children and should be banned ?
The below video gives some explanations
My Personal Opinion Is That Corporal Punishment Should Be Reintroduced In Schools WorldWide. Why Is That ?
1. Children are Children. Naughtiness is a part of them. Their understanding of what is right and wrong, moral and immoral is not the same as adults, By telling children they have "rights" protected by society you are making them big-headed and egoistic
2. By telling a child a teacher cannot touch them makes the teacher in the eyes of the young child "weak".The child`s ego is blown up and the huckleberry inside of him dares the teacher, pushing the restraint of the teacher.
3. Children who have grown up believing the world owes them are badly unprepared for life as adults outside the classroom. The outside world is a harsh place which does not tolerate their whims and such children are ill-prepared to handle the storms of life in their career and relationships wonder cases of depression among young people are on the rise.
We the children of the 70`s and 80`s listened to our parents and elders on the advice they gave us in preparation for life outside school just as they had listened to their parents and grandparents. The .com generation brought up on IM, WhatsApp , and Wi-Fi think they have all the answers to life and the oldies don`t know the modern world
What they forget is advice handed down by older generations on how to live in today`s world is still as valid as it was in the time of our fathers and grandfathers.
To Sum Up
My personal view is that regulated corporal punishment enforces discipline and prepares a child to become a well-modelled citizen of the country. The child is better prepared to face the storms of life outside the classroom and financially more literate. Able to fend for themselves.
Discipline a child so he/she understands what he/she did is wrong. But do not physically or mentally abuse them.
Respect for elders and teachers is a must.
